The Grenoble cable car is one of the first urban cable cars in the world after Rio de Janeiro and Cape Town! It was built in 1934, at the initiative of Paul Michoud, vice-president of the chamber of tourism industry and Paul Mistral, mayor of Grenoble then his successor Léon Martin.

From the city center of Grenoble, it allows quick access to La Bastille: a military fort, built in the 19th century on a hill which also gives it its name, and overlooking the Grenoble metropolitan area.
